Sensimed has developed a full, generic telemetry solution which can be adapted to interface various types of sensors for a variety of applications. The goal is to enable in-situ measurement without physical connection nor battery supply on the sensing site. An external system will send radio-frequency power (Energy) to the sensing site and receive in return measurement information (Data), similarly to RFID technology with the difference that the purpose is not to retrieve an ID, but the real-time measurement performed by the in-situ sensor. At the sensing site we apply the sensor (Sensor) with a tiny loop-antenna, and a micro-processor (ASIC) with an analog/digital telemetric system which captures the radio-frequency power through the sensing site antenna, feeds the sensor, performs the measurement, converts it to a digital value, and sends this information back to the external system. The external system communicates with the sensing site via a radio-frequency head (RF Head) connected to the external antenna. The radio-frequency head is wired to a portable battery-powered recorder (Recorder). An application-specific firmware runs in the recorder to drive the radio-frequency head to record the measurement information and to manage the connection from and to the client computer software. |
